Viola Flower Seeds

Viola Flower seeds are most often grown as an annual, but is, in fact, considered a perennial in many areas of the country. Also known as Winter Pansy, Violas are just one of the more than 500 species in the Violet family, including pansies, though they are more tolerant of hot and cold extremes than their pansy cousin.

Viola, pronounced VYE-oh-luh, is almost always called by its botanical first name, regardless of the species, though there are numerous varieties, such as Viola cornuta or Viola rostrata, Viola odorata and many more. Violas will prefer a consistently moist bed, as do pansies, though once established, they can be quite drought tolerant, depending upon the variety. A bit more adaptable than pansies, you may only have to water them once or twice a week through really dry periods. Violas also tend to wither in summer heat, so those areas of the country that are particularly warm should see them planted in a place receiving morning sun and afternoon shade. Unless it is deeply shaded for more than half the day, you should not see a reduction in blossoms. A somewhat heavy feeder, as are pansies, the Viola will perform best when fertilized at the time of transplantation and once a month after that. A liquid, slow-release fertilizer will work best. If your Violas are potted and not doing well, check to make sure you’ve adequate drainage and try increasing the feeding; potted flowering plants use the available nutrients quite quickly. We recommend feeding with Jungle Flora or Espoma Flower-tone®, both of which are approved for organic gardening and are safe for your family, pets, livestock and water habitats, as well as being specially formulated for blooming plants.

Each order of our fresh Viola seeds is filled by hand, put into a resealable plastic bag and then placed into a labeled seed packet. It is our goal to provide our customers the best in freshness and quality.
