Vine Plants

Vine plants come in all shapes and sizes; many produce flowers, while some don’t; some have fragrant and showy blossoms while others are grown primarily for their foliage, but the main reason that people grow vines is for decoration. Vines lend themselves to both functional and aesthetic functions. For example, vines are the perfect “cover-up” for an unsightly fence or even for old clothes line poles you don’t want to dig up. Vines can be used as ground cover under trees or to climb an old shed or even to act as a living curtain for a bedroom window. Vines are long-lived, once established, often growing for generations. You can shape and prune them as needed, designing them to fit both your utilitarian requirements and your artistic temperament.

When planting vines, since they are so long-lived, it is important to know the light conditions at all times of the year, as well as the soil conditions. Once they are established, many of them are almost maintenance-free. Of course, every plant benefits from a bit of TLC, so we recommend fertilizing all of your vine plants with Neptune’s Harvest. In fact, we highly recommend soaking all new plants with this fish emulsion fertilizer before transplanting. It just gives them an extra bit of “oomph” to overcome the stresses of shipping and transplanting.
