Pseuderanthemum Plants

The Pseuderanthemum plant is also known as False Eranthemum. It is often grown for its unusual and shrubby-like foliage that are colorful and often variegated. Plants in this family will bloom in white, red, purple and blue, usually bearing long, tube-shaped flowers.

Being a tropical, Pseuderanthemum, pronounced soo-der-ANTH-uh-mum, is considered a perennial evergreen in some parts of the world, though gardening enthusiasts in the U.S. will almost always grow it as an annual or grow it in a container so that it can be moved in and out of doors. It thrives on humidity and hot temperatures, not liking the temperature to drop below 60°F.

If you fertilize, a water-soluble fertilizer works best; use sparingly. Experts recommend using half the recommended dosage for Pseuderanthemum.

Price $6.00

The 'Black Varnish' Pseuderanthemum Plant is almost always grown for its distinctive foliage. Bearing oval, deeply veined and textured leaves, the uppermost color is very similar to eggplant, being more maroon on the undersides. In the shade it can appear black, but is so glossy that it never gets lost in the shadows. As summer nears its end, the leaves may fade to deep maroon. It will be studded with petite purple and white blossoms in the spring.
