Osaka White Ornamental Cabbage Flower Seeds

Ornamental Cabbage and Kale have different requirements for germination. Ornamental Cabbage requires light for germination, so should not be covered when sown, but firmly pressed into the soil and then watered very carefully so as not to dislodge the seeds. Ornamental Kale, on the other hand, should be covered with about 1/4-inch of soil. As you’ll most likely be starting these indoors in anticipation of cooler weather, you may want to stock up on some of our seed starting supplies in advance. Both ornamental cabbage and ornamental kale should be sown at soil temperatures between 65 and 70°F for the best germination results, germination normally taking about 10 days. Sow your seeds indoors 6 to 7 weeks before you expect to be able to plant them outside. Transplant to larger peat pots or to their final containers indoors, before moving them out, enabling the plants to reach substantial size prior to transplanting outside. When transplanting to an outdoor container or bed, remove the tatty bottom leaves and plant with the crown of leaves flush with the surface of the soil. In warmer climes, ornamental cabbage and kale will thrive throughout the winter, tolerating light frosts, the coloration becoming more brilliant during the coolest periods. ** It is best not to plant Brassica crops in the same spot in successive years. **
