Ornamental Millet Flower Seeds

Our Ornamental Millet Flower Seeds offer a low-maintenance alternative to your standard,  and admit it, sometimes boring, landscape options. Intriguing has been used to describe ornamental or decorative millet, an annual many gardeners and landscape architects are including in their plans, particularly for its singularly unique form. Admit it! How many of you have ever heard of Ornamental Millet?

What you may not know is that millet seed is quite often utilized in wild bird seed as a filler. Not all species of birds like it, so it will sometimes end up underneath your feeder, some of which may, in fact, germinate, prior to your mowing it down, totally unaware of the fact that you may have really liked what was growing from that discarded seed. One of the worlds oldest cultivated grains, it is now one of its newest ornamentals.  Producing foot-long spikes above wide-bladed grassy foliage, they’ve been compared to cattails or bottle brushes, though we can guarantee neither of those will come in the purple and maroon colors most common on decorative millet cultivars. Unlike other ornamental grains or grasses, ornamental millet requires regular feeding in order to thrive. Additionally, they will not perform well when water-starved or in poor soil, so ornamental millet is definitely not for everyone. However, if you are willing to nurture one of the these newest ornamentals, the reward will be well worth it. In order to meet the nutritional needs of your decorative millet, in the container or in the ground, we recommend regular feeding with Jungle Flora or Neptune’s Harvest, both of which are approved for organic gardening, are formulated specifically for vegetable and ornamental plants and are safe for use around your family and pets, as well as being safe for the environment. And if regular watering will be a challenge, a water timer and soaker hose combination may be just the ticket to make both you and your millet happy!

Each order of our fresh Ornamental Millet seeds is filled by hand, put into a resealable plastic bag and then placed into a labeled seed packet. It is our goal to provide our customers the best in freshness and quality.
