Gomphrena Flower Seeds

Gomphrena Flower Seeds yield a different-looking and affable, globe-shaped blossom originally native to Panama and Guatemala. Also known as Globe Amaranth or Globe Flower, this hardy annual is a favorite for adding interest, color and texture to flowerbeds, fresh arrangements and to dried arrangements, retaining its color upon drying. If allowed to do so, Gomprhrena will self-sow year after year, though not aggressively so.

Gomphrena, pronounced gom-FREE-nuh, can produce dozens of wonderfully showy pom-pom-like blossoms per plant, these “flowers” actually being bracts (atypical leaves) arranged in globe-like fashion with a papery texture. The true flowers are quite insignificant, are normally white to yellow and are very small trumpet-shaped blossoms. It is the bracts that are highly attractive to butterflies and other beneficial pollinators, as well as providing astounding color and architectural interest to your beds and arrangements. Yielding what most people call the “blossoms”, resembling that of clover, Globe Amaranth is amazingly easy to grow from seed, right in the garden or in seed starting trays. You’ll find that Globe Amaranth will bloom from midsummer to the first frost and is highly adaptable to various soil conditions, as long as it is well-drained. This deer-resistant, non-invasive and non-aggressive grower has become a long-standing favorite of many gardeners, spanning the seasons well in both its fresh and dried forms! Water soluble, slow release fertilizers are the best way to feed most blooming plants. We recommend Jungle Flora or Espoma Flower-tone®, both of which are approved for organic gardening and are safe for your family, pets, livestock and water habitats, as well as being specially formulated for blooming plants.
