Okra seed is normally started directly into the garden soil as it is easy to grow and grows quickly. Soil temperatures should be above 65○F. Soil thermometers are an inexpensive way to insure that your seeds are being germinated under the optimal conditions. With the correct conditions, it takes about 6-10 days for the okra seed to germinate.


In order to grow the healthiest; best tasting okra, the pH level of your garden soil should be 6.5-7.5. A soil tester will take the guess work out of determining the pH levels.
