Cerastium Flower Seeds

Our Cerastium Flower seeds produce a mat-forming, hardy perennial and is most commonly called Snow-in-Summer, though it is also known as Mouse Ear, Chickweed, Silver Carpet, and for those of you who are romantics, Love-in-Mist!

Cerastium, pronounced sir-AS-tee-um, is amazingly attractive, even when not in bloom. A native of Italy, Cerastium is a favorite for adding accent to rock gardens, the silvery grayish-green, wooly leaves bearing masses of white, daisy-ish blossoms. Though it grows well in poor soil with little water, once established, the Deep South is not its favorite habitat, the combination of heat and humidity taking its toll. Snow-in-Summer will, however tolerate both cold climates and desert heat. Deer and rabbits avoid them. Cut back hard after blooming to discourage spreading and divide and replant in early spring or autumn if bare patches develop. As with all bloomers, they will perform their best on a regular feeding schedule. We recommend Jungle Flora or Espoma Flower-tone®, both of which are organically rich and specially formulated for blooming plants.

Each order of our fresh Cerastium seeds is filled by hand, put into a resealable plastic bag and then placed into a labeled seed packet. It is our goal to provide our customers the best in freshness and quality.

Silver Chiffon Cerastium Flower Seeds

Price $3.13

Our ‘Silver Chiffon’ Cerastium Flower Seed is a drought tolerant, low growing perennial, cold hardy down to -40°F. Found wild in the stony mountains of Europe, this cultivar is also known as Snow-in-Summer and Tomentosum Columnae and is widely used in the U.S. in rock gardens and xeriscaped borders and curb strips. Above silvery gray-green foliage, masses of tiny blossoms are borne, the whole plant looking as if covered in a white mist when in full bloom. The foliage is covered in fine white hairs that add to the illusion of “mist” where no moisture can be found! Approximately 300 seeds per each hand-filled packet.
