Hidcote Blue Flower Seeds

SKU: SFS-LAV-HID-ER
Our ‘Hidcote Blue’ Lavender Flower Seed is a perennial dwarf lavender with very dark purple blossoms and bluish-green evergreen foliage. A bushy, well-branched plant, Hidcote is considered one of the best for harvesting essential oils. It is also used both fresh and dried, adding flavor to candies and cakes, fragrance to perfumes and body products and infusing the air with its recognizable and pleasant scent when used in sachets and potpourris. Blooming later than some varieties, it also continues to bloom later in the season. Hidcote Lavender is a must-have for the Cottage Garden! Approximately 50 seeds per each hand-filled packet. Hidcote Blue Flower Seeds

Lavender requires full sunlight to grow, even a moderate amount of shade possibly hindering its growth. Not picky about soil, lavender enjoys rocky and slightly sand soil, though it will adapt to about any. The soil should be well-drained and does not require a ton of nutrients, though it must be kept consistently moist, not muddy, for the seeds to germinate. Lavender seeds require darkness for germination, so plant them 1/2 to 1-inch deep. The ground must be kept moist until germination takes place, normally from 14 to 25 days. Once established, Lavender will thrive in the most arid environments, often without irrigation, especially if the weeds are kept at bay so as not to rob the lavender of the available water and nutrients. Dead stems and debris should be removed in the fall so as not to hinder spring regrowth and if you anticipate winter temperatures falling below 30°F the first year, dig up the plants and move them indoors or mulch them heavily, removing the mulch when danger of all frost has passed in the spring. After the first year, lavender is tolerant to -30°F and will thrive best in temperatures below 100°F.
