Bergenia Flower Seeds

Our Bergenia Flower Seeds can also be known as Piqsqueak or Saxifrage and are sometimes mistakenly confused with Elephant Ears. Native to China, Bergenia has large, heart-shaped, glossy green leaves, though its foliage will put on a fall show of bronze or red if you live where autumn brings cold temperatures. The tiny flowers grow in clusters and are bell-shaped upon 12-inch, richly colored red stems, and though the blooming season is relatively short, it can be lengthened by plucking the flower stalks regularly. They add really nice texture and color to fresh cut arrangements.

Bergenia, pronounced ber-jee-nee-ah, are beautiful, even when not in bloom. They are quite adaptable, tolerating a wide range of climatic and growing conditions, often being used as a spreading ground cover, in rock gardens or as a wide border or edging plant. Dry soil will slow growth so adequate moisture is a necessity, and in the hottest part of the country they should have afternoon shade and/or be mulched heavily to prevent burning. Bergenia also prefers shelter from strong, biting winter winds. All flowering plants benefit greatly from regular feeding, especially during the blooming season. We recommend Jungle Flora or Espoma Flower-tone®, both of which are organically rich and specially formulated for blooming plants.

Each order of our fresh Bergenia seeds is filled by hand, put into a resealable plastic bag and then placed into a labeled seed packet. It is our goal to provide our customers the best in freshness and quality.

Price $3.13

Our ‘Red Beauty’ Bergenia Flower Seeds yield a plant that is admired both for its foliage and its uprightly held carmine-red, bell-like blossoms atop sturdy red stems. Described as cabbage-like, the glossy foliage is normally green with just a hint of burgundy, but provides exceptional autumn color as the temperatures drop. This hardy perennial is evergreen in the warmest climates and is very easy to grow. Approximately 25 seeds per each hand-filled packet.
