Bells of Ireland Flower Seeds

Our Bells of Ireland Moluccella Flower Seeds are sometimes called the Shell Flower or Molucca Balm and is in no way native or having anything to do with Ireland, except for the shape of the blossoms and the quite beautiful green color. Actually native to the Mediterranean, they can grow 24 to 36-inches tall, the “flowers”, in reality, being large, emerald green calyxes, inside of which is the ‘true’ tiny white blossom, growing upwards along thick, sturdy stems.

Bells of Ireland Moluccella, pronounced MOLL-you-sell-a, are not picky about their soil and will grow well in both full sun and partial shade, though they will do best in afternoon shade in the hottest parts of the country. They will also grow in containers, but usually require some kind of support since the roots cannot reach as deep. Keeping them consistently moist will develop the strongest and deepest root system to support those generous stalks of blossoms. Not only do Bells of Ireland look astounding in fresh arrangements, you can dry them and use in dried arrangements, the wheat-colored, unusually-shaped blossoms adding height, texture and interest. All flowering annuals benefit greatly from regular feeding, especially during the blooming season. We recommend Jungle Flora or Espoma Flower-tone®, both of which are organically rich and specially formulated for blooming plants.

Each order of our fresh Bells of Ireland seeds is filled by hand, put into a resealable plastic bag and then placed into a labeled seed packet. It is our goal to provide our customers the best in freshness and quality.

Bells of Ireland Moluccella Flower Seeds

Price $3.13

Our ‘Bells of Ireland’ Moluccella Flower Seeds grow a most pleasingly attractive and somewhat unusual plant. Growing similar to how foxglove grows, use these 24 to 36-inch tall plants as background for lower growing perennials or annuals. The white-veined, emerald-green, bell-shaped calyxes cradle an incredibly petite white blossom. Though an annual, you can enjoy their beauty forever by drying Bells of Ireland for use in dried flower arrangements. Simply hang them upside down in bunches until thoroughly dried. The sturdy stalks adequately support the wheat-colored, dried, bell-shaped blossoms and lend themselves well to a touch of glitter or airbrushed color! Approximately 100 seeds per each hand-filled packet.
