Our Aquilegia Flower Seeds are more commonly known as Columbine and are the state flower of the Rocky Mountain state of Colorado. Producing amazingly elegant and regal blossoms in various shades from pastel to rich jewel colors, hummingbirds absolutely love the sweet nectar the Columbine provides. They will tolerate full sun in hot climates with extra water, but are considered relatively drought tolerant when planted in partially shaded areas. Aquilegia, pronounced ak-wee-LEE-jee-uh, may also be known as Granny’s Nightcap and is recognizable by the spurs, or extended, slender, tubular petals that extend backwards of each blossom. The most common blossoms are single or double, though there are also triple and quadruple blossomed varieties. Aquilegia will self-seed if allowed to do so, so cutting the blossoms for vases or pinching spent blossoms is recommended, unless, of course, you are naturalizing a woody area and you want more of this stunning specimen. As is the case with almost all blooming plants, the best performance is guaranteed with regular feedings of Jungle Flora or Espoma Flower-tone®, both of which are organically rich and formulated for blooming plants. Each order of our fresh Aquilegia seeds is filled by hand, put into a resealable plastic bag and then placed into a labeled seed packet. It is our goal to provide our customers the best in freshness and quality. |
