Amaranthus Flower Seeds

Our Amaranthus Flower Seeds produces what is collectively called the Amaranth and is an ancient crop that originated in the Americas and was grown widely as a grain crop by the Aztecs in the 1400s. Today, almost all cultivars have been developed for their amazing blossoms, though a resurgence of this incredibly healthy grain appears to be underway.

Amaranthus, pronounced am-uh-RAN-thus, performs well in all but poorly aerated clay soils, being at its best in compost-enriched soil, sometimes growing over 8-feet tall under those conditions. There is another plant, Quinoa, pronounced KEEN-wah, which is considered the twin of Amaranthus, the main difference being that Quinoa is a cool weather crop, whereas Amaranthus is considered a warm weather crop. It takes a lot of energy to consistently produce these unusual blossoms, so for the best performance while blooming we recommend regular feeding with Jungle Flora or Espoma Flower-tone®, both of which are organically rich and formulated for blooming plants. The same will be true regardless of your growing Amaranthus for the grain, which is actually a high protein seed, or for the always tremendous flowers they produce.

Each order of our fresh Amaranthus seeds is filled by hand, put into a resealable plastic bag and then placed into a labeled seed packet. It is our goal to provide our customers the best in freshness and quality.
