Purple Turnip Grazing Seed

purple top grazing turnip seedPurple Grazing Turnip Seed is an all-around, weather tolerant, quick growing, emergency forage for fall and winter for goats, sheep, cattle and hogs. Growing large, purple-colored tops, sowing grazing turnips in July or August will contribute to available cold weather forage while reducing your dependence on late season supplemental grain or hay. When field tested, newly weaned steer calves fill their bellies on turnips, lay right down, and gained an average 2.3 pounds per day. Similar field tests on cows averaging 1400 pounds each, showed an average weight gain of 100 pounds in just 50 days.

Turnip tops yield about 16% crude protein, while the turnips come in at about 12% and are high in sugar and water, actually reducing the amount of water necessary in your stock tanks. Cattle have been observed cupping the turnips right out of the ground once the tops have frozen and have even been seen to turn their noses up at alfalfa when turnips are readily available. Lean times don't have to mean lean livestock. Purple Top Grazing Turnips keeps your livestock healthier for less.

The recommended seeding rate is 2 to 5 pounds per acre on new pasture or 1 to 3 pounds when mixed. (Use slightly higher rates when broadcasting.)
