Our Organic Purple Calabash Tomato Seed produces one of the most unusual and uniquely flavored heirlooms on the market. The Purple Calabash tomato dates back to the Aztecs and is, in a way, so ugly as to be beautiful. The color is indeed, purple, kind of a deep burgundy with darker purple shoulders when fully ripe. It is fairly flat, deeply fluted all the way around, sometimes involving the whole tomato; it is usually scarred, especially across the shoulders and the taste has been described as citrusy, rich, concentrated and complex.
