Lunaria Flower Seeds

Our Lunaria Flower Seeds are an annual or biennial, depending upon your zone, and is more widely known as the Money Tree. Also known as Honesty or Annual Honesty, it is tall, usually between 2 and 3-feet high, native to the Balkans and West Asia, but widely naturalized throughout North America and Europe. Having large, pointedly-oval, heart-shaped, serrated leaves during the blooming season, most of us are more familiar with its silvery-looking, papery, translucent seed pods. In the U.S., you may also know this plant as the Silver Dollar Plant, Chinese Money Tree or Chinese Coin Tree, just a few of many variations.

Our Lunaria, pronounced loon-AIR-ee-yuh, is easy to grow, the airy, four-petalled blossoms in the spring being hues of reddish-lavender to white, after which the seed pods start to form. First being green, the flattened discs eventually become the size of a silver dollar and turn silvery-white and semi-transparent, showing the seeds inside each pod. At this point you can hang them in bunches upside down to dry and use them in dried flower arrangements or other craft projects. If you leave them on the plant, they will drop off eventually, their light weight being carried to the far reaches of your yard, and possible setting up home in unexpected places. They are not picky about soil and will grow in full sun to partial shade, though in rich, fertile soils, their performance will be at its best. All blooming plants require extra sustenance when getting ready to bloom or in bloom. We highly recommend Espoma Flower-tone® or Jungle Flora, both of which are approved for organic gardening, are formulated for blooming plants and are safe for use around your family and pets, as well as being safe for the environment.

Each order of our fresh Lunaria seeds is filled by hand, put into a resealable plastic bag and then placed into a labeled seed packet. It is our goal to provide our customers the best in freshness and quality.

Money Plant Lunaria Flower Seeds

Price $2.68

Our ‘Money Plant’ Lunaria Flower Seed yields so much more than those somewhat crispy-looking and feeling, flattened seed pods that have given Lunaria its nickname. In the spring you will enjoy heart-shaped, serrated leaves above which delicate four-petalled blossoms of white to rich lavender hues will form clusters, attracting butterflies and bees. As the stalks and seed pods start to dry, remove them if you don’t want them to reseed or cut them close to the ground, drying them for use throughout the colder months and holiday season. You can even spray paint them! Approximately 50 seeds per each hand-filled packet.
