Luna White Hibiscus Flower Seeds

Hibiscus flower seed is very rarely sown directly into the garden, the success rate for trying to do so, somewhat limited. Instead, the recommended way to germinate hibiscus seeds is to wrap each seed in one piece of wet paper towel. Place the paper towel and the seed in a plastic baggie, leaving the baggie open and place it in your refrigerator for two weeks. Once sprouted, plant one seed per cell in a seed tray, covering each seed with your growing medium, keeping the soil moist at all times. Once the plants reach 5-inches in height, transplant each cell to a larger pot, at least 6-inches, again ensuring the soil stays moist, but not wet. Once the plants reach 12-inches tall, you can transplant them outside, watering them thoroughly, and then reverting to a more normal watering schedule. This method, though seeming cumbersome, is not all difficult and has had the overall best success rates. If you’d like to take on the challenge of planting directly into a well-prepared garden bed, sow the seeds when the soil temperatures are consistently above 80°F, the seeds normally taking 2 to 3-weeks to germinate.
