Kentucky Bluegrass Seed

kentucky bluegrass seed for saleKentucky Bluegrass Seed is considered a creeping grass, thereby experiencing slower moisture loss than more upright, open-growing varieties of forage grasses. Somewhat drought tolerant, Kentucky Bluegrass is able to go in and out of dormancy easily, turning brown when water-starved but quickly turning green as moisture, even in the form of dew returns. Ryegrass is highly recommended as a companion grass, whether growing Kentucky Bluegrass as a lawn or horse pasture. Perennial ryegrasses will establish quickly, providing cover while the bluegrass germinates and grows in. It can take 1 to 2 months for Kentucky Bluegrass to become fully established. Once established, the shallow spreading nature of the underground rhizomes can create a more stable base for other grasses or legumes.

The recommended seeding rate for Kentucky Bluegrass Seed for a new lawn is 45 to 135 pounds per acre, or 1 to 3 pounds per 1,000 sq. feet. When planting for pasture, the recommended rate is 5 to 20 pounds per acre, assuming it will be mixed with ryegrass or another forage grass.
