Jaguar Yellow-Dark Center Gerbera Flower Seeds

Gerbera Flower Seed is most successfully started indoors for transplanting to beds or containers outdoors later, after the second set of true leaves has made their appearance. However, some gardeners are very successful at starting them from seed in the garden. The seeds should be lightly pressed into the planting medium, but not covered. Regardless of where you start them, if you are using plastic to conserve moisture, the seed should be shaded to avoid “cooking” the seeds on hot days, and may need to be vented. Temperature control is fairly vital. They will germinate in 8 to 10 days at 75°F, but then need cooler temperatures, about 60°F, as soon as germination takes place, until they are established. If starting in the garden, this may require the use of shade cloth over and around the seeds in order to mimic cooler spring-time temps. Or, start outside when the temperatures are consistently above 60°, using plastic to raise and maintain heat and moisture until germination takes place. Yes, Gerbera Daisies can be a challenge to start from seed, but SO worth it! And once you’ve got it down, you will be the envy of your neighborhood. Starting Gerbera Daisies from seed can be the ultimate test of your “green thumb”!
