Helichrysum Flower Seeds are in the Sunflower family and is estimated to have some 600 species. Derived from the Greek words, helisso, meaning to turn around and chrysos, meaning gold, it is more commonly called Strawflower and is sometimes called Golden Eternal Flower, Everlasting, Curry Plant and Licorice Plant. Widely used in both fresh and dried arrangements, Helichrysum retains its color and shape well through the drying process. To dry, simply bundle and hang upside down. Helichrysum, pronounced hel-ih-KRY-sum, is also steam distilled to produce a reddish yellow essential oil, popular for its unique fragrance, sometimes described as a combination of burnt sugar and ham. Mmmmm. That’s a great aroma and thought by some to “open the heart and clear old emotional wounds”. Additionally, this essential oil is one known as Everlasting or Immortelle, and is a “safe” oil, having been studied in Europe for speeding healing while reducing inflammation and for the regeneration of nerves and improvement of many skin conditions. Water soluble, slow release fertilizers are the best way to feed Helichrysum. If grown in containers, their need for good nutrition is even higher. We recommend Jungle Flora or Espoma Flower-tone®, both of which are approved for organic gardening and are safe for your family, pets, livestock and water habitats, as well as being specially formulated for blooming plants. Each order of our fresh Helichrysum seeds is filled by hand, put into a resealable plastic bag and then placed into a labeled seed packet. It is our goal to provide our customers the best in freshness and quality. |
