Dusty Miller Flower Seeds produce plants that are also known as Ragwort, or Silver Ragwort. These extremely versatile plants bear, small, insignificant, yellow, Echinacea-like blossoms and are grown purely for their silvery foliage. Somewhat woody and shrubby, in fact, considered a sub-shrub, the leaves and stems are usually covered in fine white hairs. Dusty Miller is very heat and drought tolerant and is winter hardy down to 5°F. Preferring full sun, Dusty Miller will grow almost as well in the shade, though the silvery color may be a bit less pronounced. Considered a fire resistant plant, it is also salt tolerant and deer resistant, making it ideal for care-free ground cover at the beach house or for filling foundation beds. Dusty Miller is also widely used as a filler in containers, its unusual coloration a pleasing addition to mixed plantings. Pinching the new growth in the center will encourage fuller plants. As always, we highly recommend a slow release, organic fertilizer. Neptune’s Harvest is a good choice, aiding in germination and encouraging development of a healthy root system. Liquid fertilizers tend to provide the most consistent and even feeding. Jungle Flora is also a good choice. Feed bimonthly if in containers with other plants and monthly if growing alone. Each order of our fresh Dusty Miller seeds is filled by hand, put into a resealable plastic bag and then placed into a labeled seed packet. It is our goal to provide our customers the best in freshness and quality. |
