Covent Garden Gypsophila Flower Seeds

SKU: SFS-GYP-COV-ER
Our ‘Covent Garden’ Gypsophila Flower Seed produces airy, tallish plants with tons of petite white blossoms interspersed with grayish-green, somewhat sparse foliage. Having a “frothy” appearance when in full bloom, its stems are open and slender. With a long tap root, annual Baby’s Breath does not transplant well, but also prefers a bit of crowding, so thin your seedlings early to just 6 to 8-inches apart and watch nature’s delicate, fragrant beauty unfold! Approximately 500 seeds per each hand-filled packet. More details...

Covent Garden Gypsophila Flower Seeds

Gypsophila flower seed germinates in a quick 10 to 15 days at temperatures of about 70°F. Grown in greenhouses for the florist’s trade, sowing starts in December with successive sowings of annual varieties every two weeks in order to meet the continual demand of the industry. You can do the same in your garden to keep a ready supply for accenting your own cut flower arrangements, even drying them towards the end of the season to embellish your fall and winter decorations. Easy to grow, simply scatter the tiny seeds or sprinkle them in a shallow trough, cover with 1/8 to 1/4-inch soil and keep moist. Baby’s Breath tends to bloom better when a little crowded, so only thin to 6 or 10-inches apart for the annual varieties and 12 to 15-inches apart for the larger perennials. Sowing the annuals every few weeks through July will ensure non-stop blooms up to the first frost, while the perennial varieties will bloom all season long.
