Organic Okra Seed

Okra seed is normally started directly into the garden soil as it is easy to grow and grows quickly. Soil temperatures should be above 65○F. Soil thermometers are an inexpensive way to insure that your seeds are being germinated under the optimal conditions. With the correct conditions, it takes about 6-10 days for the okra seed to germinate.

In order to grow the healthiest; best tasting okra, the pH level of your garden soil should be 6.5-7.5. A soil tester will take the guess work out of determining the pH levels.

Organic Burgundy Okra Seed

Organic Burgundy Okra Seed produces good yields of burgundy colored okra. Burgundy okra has deep red colored stems with green leaves. Pods can be harvested up to 8" long and still remain tender. Tasty pods of Burgundy turn green when cooked. Bushy plants bear big crops. Okra, native to Africa, does best in hot climates. Harvest the pods when they are young and tender. Organic Clemson Spineless Okra Seed

Organic Clemson Spineless Okra Seed produces dark, emerald green pods that are only slightly grooved and that do not have spines. An All-American Winner, this variety is at its peak when 2.5-3 inches long. A favorite of gardeners, this variety has a velvet-like texture, rather than harder spines, but can still cause skin irritation, so gloves are recommended for harvest. Approximately 100 seeds per packet.

Organic Cow Horn Okra Seed

Our Organic Cow Horn Okra Seed is also called Cow’s Horn okra or Steer Horn okra due to the length and shape of the okra pods. This spineless variety is an heirloom that dates back to prior to 1865 and can produce okra pods up to 15-inches long, staying tender, meaty and crunchy up to 10-inches long, which is just about unheard of for okra. Those in-the-know claim that you can pick these at up to 6-inches long and still have supremely tender, flavorful okra suitable for frying, pickling or canning. The longer pods are most often used in slow-cooked gumbo. Approximately 100 seeds per packet.

Our Organic Dwarf Perkins Okra Seed produces a shorter plant which stands up better to the rigors of extreme weather, especially wind. Bearing 8 to 10-inch long, straight pods that are tapered at the end, this improved variety yields abundant amounts of okra that are 1 to 1.5-inches in diameter. This is the ideal okra to use in robust stews and soups. Approximately 100 seeds per packet.
