Perlite

Perlite is a lightweight and porous soil additive. A product of volcanic activity, the crude rock expands, similar to how popcorn expands, as the moisture within is vaporized. This activity creates zillions of tiny bubbles, or air pockets, in which moisture from watering your plants can be stored for later use by the roots.

Perlite is the soil additive to use with plants not needing a consistently moist environment, but which will benefit from the aeration and drainage this coarse material provides, as well as the increased humidity.
