Asclepias Flower Seeds

Asclepias Flower Seeds produce plants that are also called Butterfly Weed or Orange Milkweed and may be erroneously called Common Milkweed. Easy to control in your garden, this fast growing perennial will often grow freely in farmer’s fields. Deadheading will reduce the chance of fostering next year’s seedlings where you don’t want them. You may also know this particular plant as Pleurisy Root; in days gone by the Indians chewed its root to cure pleurisy and other pulmonary disorders.

Asclepias, pronounced ah-SKLEE-pee-us, attracts hordes of butterflies and honey bees and is one of the hosts for the Monarch butterfly larva. In addition there are many butterfly species that will arrive just for the nectar, as will the hummingbirds. The showy 3 to 5-inch blossoms spread out with a somewhat flat top, the better for the butterflies to perch upon! Most cultivars developed for the garden do not have the milky sap for which the milkweed was named, so toxicity is not an issue. For the best performance while blooming we recommend regular feeding with Jungle Flora or Espoma Flower-tone®, both of which are organically rich and formulated for blooming plants.

Each order of our fresh Asclepias seeds is filled by hand, put into a resealable plastic bag and then placed into a labeled seed packet. It is our goal to provide our customers the best in freshness and quality.

Tuberosa Asclepias Flower Seeds

Price $5.27

Our ‘Tuberosa’ Asclepias Flower Seeds are grown most widely for their attractiveness to the Monarch butterfly and its relatives. Also known as Butterfly Weed or Orange Milkweed, this cultivar is easy to control in your landscape as long as you remove the blossoms before they go to seed. Prolific bloomers, you should have plenty of blossoms to cut for your vases, as well as to satisfy the butterflies and honey bees. Butterfly Weed has a long taproot, so transplanting is iffy at best. Choose your site carefully and then enjoy the show! Approximately 50 seeds per each hand-filled packet.
